We started training of the new hires in the new office yesterday. The new office is in a mess right now (this is another story, may be later..) – all the service guys – electrician, false ceiling guy, AC guy, civil work guy, color guy – everybody is in there and we are trying to keep ourselves sane in all the chaos.
But we kept the promise given to the new hires and started the training in the new office. I took a session on introduction to web and networks yesterday evening. This is a session that I love taking. I ask them what happens when you enter a URL in the browser, and then go on to explain DNS, web server, IP, protocols, sockets, routers and so on. I compare the network terms with real life examples – which are quite funny at times – and people find it super easy to digest it.
I am sure they now know what happens when Romeo sends a love letter to Juliet and attaches his heart to it! How it travels from Thunderbird to Thunderbird and how the poor heart is shattered into ascii bits and brought back to life! They actually even know how one Romeo talks to more than one Juliets via IM and P2P these days 😉
For the last two times, I have used the Warriors of the Net movie clip in this session, and people have liked it very much. As a matter of fact, I fell in love with this movie the first time I saw it in my NCST class. I recommend you view it as well!
Have an introduction to Rich Internet Applications session tomorrow and a few more in the next two weeks. I am going to enjoy this!
