I have been thinking about developing a small app for Foss.In/2005. Something similar to IntroNetworks that Macromedia uses at its MAX conferences.
I haven’t started working on this, but here are a few basic ideas:
- Should ideally be cross platofm desktop app – Linux, Windows, Mac. Otherwise a web app
- Allow for viewing list of talks, speakers, speaker bios
- Shortlist and arrange talks in a “personalized” schedule
- Make notes
- Add personal profile details and interest areas
- Search for people with similar interests
- Some mechanism for people to meet like minded people at the event
Would you like to join? Then post a comment here!
I am planning for the following technology mix: PHP5 on the server, Flash & Mono on the client side.
Good idea. I can’t help. I would like to use it of course.
I’d written a conference management system when I was at NCST. It provided the following features:
– web interface
– register as speaker, register paper
– change paper status, assign to referee, etc.
– referee papers
– mail authors
– view author profile and paper abstract after closing date
It did not handle scheduling or the other features you’ve mentioned.
Unfortunately it was written using java servlets and sybase and I wouldn’t know how to work on it now.
Thanks for the comments Philip! I was thinking more from the participants view point. The app I am thinking of will be used by participants to manage the talks they are interested in.
Would you like to have such an app? If yes, what features would you like to have in it?
Glancer looks definatelly like introNetworks 🙂
any way, nice registration wizard, we have in development the registration wizard of the very same concept.
Yes, introNetworks was certainly the inspiration for Glancer! We are building more things around the core concept. 🙂
But I did not understand your note about the similarity in registration wizard!
