Yes, you read it right! Macs can do Windows now. Boot Camp is the latest from Apple, that allows you to run Windows natively on your Intel based Mac.
The first para on the Boot Camp page says:
More and more people are buying and loving Macs. To make this choice simply irresistible, Apple will include technology in the next major release of Mac OS X, Leopard, that lets you install and run the Windows XP operating system on your Mac. Called Boot Camp (for now), you can download a public beta today.
So that means, you can now run OS X, Windows and Linux all on the same machine. I am guessing Apple is also working on a technology (iWINE probably!) that would allow you to run your Windows apps straight off OS X. They are already running PPC compiled applications on Intel based Macs. Looking at how things are going, the days are not far when everything works everywhere! And Apple now has the technology (and money) to make the first entry into this market.
Back on the subject; Apple has made it very clear that in no way they are accepting Windows. It’s just that they are making it easier for the Windows fans to convert! Checkout the underlined sentences in the image here.
I haven’t tried this yet, don’t have a Mac-Intel yet. But it sure looks promising. And it sure tilts me towards buying a MacBookPro!
Microsoft, beware!
