Kapil told me about the PhotoMarathon in Johannesburg. Over 12 hours, and 12 themes, photographers shoot and submit 12 images each. The best of them are exhibited and awarded. Neat idea.
Can we do such a thing in Mumbai? 22nd April 2007, Sunday?

It was a great day at the Jo’burg photomarathon Yesterday. You should have been there 😉
Instead of a photomarathon on the same day, here’s what I would suggest:
# Pick two consecutive days of any week
# Have everyone ‘sign up’ beforehand
# Based on their preferences and/or a random pick, create two separate pools of photographers from this set of people
# On the first day, the first set takes pictures
# At the end of the first day, the entire first set posts their pictures
# The second set of photographers uses this first-day upload in order to make their own interpretation(s) of the “theme” of the first day
# The second set follows that theme / those themes
# The disparity in the themes, as intepreted by one or many people in the second set, will allow for creative expression; as well as be a good visual of how photography is truly an expression of individuality
Ideally, as a result, one would expect:
# Threads off a single picture
# Clouds off a group of pictures
# Repetitions of the same picture, in different conditions; in order to exhibit a time lapse / creative expression
The “creative pressure” on the first set would be to find, in photos, good “seeds” for the second set.
The “creative pressure” on the second set would be to follow the first set’s act adequately.
